3D Patch

Anaglyph 3D Patch

Design + Sewing + Color Matching + Embroidery

Anaglyph 3D is the stereoscopic 3D effect achieved by means of encoding each eye's image using filters of different colors, typically red and cyan. Anaglyph 3D images contain two differently filtered colored images, one for each eye.

To create an anaglyph 3D embroidered patch, I first created the image in black in Adobe Illustrator. Then duplicated the layer twice. The second layer is red and shifted slightly left. THe last laer is cyan and shifted slightly right.

In the embroidery software, I converted the art to stitches. I matched the thread as closely to the red and cyan lenses in the glasses. I, of course, had to runa few tests, first on stitch tightness, and sizing of the layers. Then tested the colors.

The final result was sewn onto a navy flight suit. And the 3D effect does work when the glasses are worn.
